New York With Company {AFROPUNK}

This past weekend, two good friends and I traveled to New York for AFROPUNK weekend. Since we only got tickets for Sunday's concert, we decided to spend the other two days exploring the city. We stayed in Crown Heights, Brooklyn so it was pretty central to wherever we wanted to go; about 30-ish minutes, to be exact--not that bad since New York's transportation is super efficient. We got there on Friday Morning and left Monday morning.

Friday

On Friday we decompressed from the Megabus ride and spent some time roaming around Crown Heights. We came across this really good Jamaican Food restaurant called Island Cz Cafe.  I wrote a review on the restaurant and their Oxtail reggae Pasta. sooo Yummy. On our way home we walked past an art exhibit that a young female artist had organized. This is also another reason why I love New York, you could have nothing planned and just randomly come across different events happening around the corner from your house. I appreciate the spontaneous nature of the New York scene, I do.

Friday night, we went to Mad Dog & Beans Mexican Cantina in the Financial District. Since I was full from the earlier Jamaican Ox Tails, i just decided to order Guacamole. This Guac was made to feed four people, but it was perfect and I ate it all by myself. Hey, no shame in the hunger game.

Saturday

On Saturday we went to a couple of thrift shops and spent the rest of the day at the Highline and at the

After the Highline, we took our hungry selves to the Chelsea Market! The Chelsea Market is a WHOLE other world. If you have never been there you are definitely in for sensory overload, but it is so worth it. They have almost any type of food you can think of and a bunch of cool shops and boutique stores. I believe a couple of media companies are also housed in the same building as Youtube, Discovery Channel and a couple of others that I can't remember at the moment.   Great story...I had this really intense spicy noodle at this noodle place inside the market and nearly died of heat exhaustion in a perfectly air-conditioned space. I thought I was used to pepper, but this wasn't pepper, it was magic because it literally did not hit until 3 minutes after I finished stuffing my mouth.

Overall, I'd say Saturday was a great day. We took a lot of pictures which is always a highlight for me and met some cool people at the markets, one in particular who owned this vegan and all natural skincare line. I did test out and buy a few products from her so I am really excited to share those products with you very soon.

Our feet were burning by this point, but little did we know it would get worse the very next day....at AFROPUNK

Sunday

Sunday was dedicated to AFROPUNK SHENANIGANS!! Be sure to check out that article to read more about how we just wanted to lay down and take a nap on the street after a whole day (& Weekend) of standing.
