Turning Gratitude Into A Lifestyle With These 6 Steps

Gratitude should be a lifestyle and not simply a gesture. Nourish your body, mind, and spirit in these 6 ways during the holiday seasons & thereafter.

1. Write it Down

Keeping a general notebook full of your thoughts and gratitude is actually a great way to make your intentions and feelings tangible this season. It is nourishing to the soul and you can even be a little extra with it.  You could get up every morning and write down 10 things that make you happy, or make a gratitude jar. A couple of years ago, my friend suggested that I make a gratitude jar; and that is what I did! I took a mason jar, sprinkled it with some gold glitter, filled up the jar’s bottom with silver confetti and tied a bow on the top. However, it is more than just a cute jar.  Throughout the year, I place notes of experiences and memories of which I am thankful for. At the end of the year, It makes for a good opportunity to relive, reminisce and give thanks for the experiences that have occurred.

2. Say It Loud

Verbalize Your Gratitude. Just as the things we place in writing can be powerful, our words are equally as influential. Expressing your gratitude verbally can make your loved ones feel good, as It is always nice to give appreciation where and when it is due.

3. Treat Yourself Well.

Self-care is a form of self-love. Draw a bubble bath, listen to music, read a book, partake in a new hobby! Do whatever it is you need to do to nourish yourself this holiday season and every season. To give others support you have to be able to take care of yourself first. Detach yourself from things and people that distract you from being present. Connect with your inner self and be appreciative and acknowledge the wisdom that you have or that is available to you.  '

Surround yourself with positivity and reduce the stress in your life. When you have things that uplift your spirit, your attitude will change, you will accomplish more and be a magnet of positive things.

4. Spend Time With Those Who You Love

Life can keep us distracted from those who we really care about. Chasing that money is important, but spending quality time with your family is even more. Staying present with your family and enjoying time with those around you is what life is about.

5. Do What Makes You Appreciate & Live In The Moment

My gratitude jar isn’t only filled with people, but things and experiences that I am thankful for. I am thankful every day for my bed, the roof over my head, and the clothes on my back. Thankful for the fact that I can use my senses, literally and figuratively.

Additionally, it’s always been hard for me to “live in the present”, but I find that when you sit and enjoy the moment, you instantly practice gratitude.

6. Pay It Forward

We don’t live alone in the world, we share it with billions of people \who are all are in need of different things. Spread your gratitude to others and share your wealth; whether in money, food, material things, or wisdom. Find your favorite charity and give back. My favorite is Habitat for Humanity. There is a local affiliate in every city.
