A Charismatic Harbor in the Glittering Mediterranean || Hersonissos, Crete
How did I get to Crete, Greece?
My sister-in-law, Tina always takes an annual trip to Greece; and this year her trip coincided perfectly with my summer plans. Tina, my nieces and I hopped on a plane to the cozy Greek island of Crete. Hersonissos is basically like the Miami of Greece and is common tourist attraction amongst Europeans who take "holiday". So On June 8th 2016, I traveled to one of my DREAM destinations, Greece!
My Day-to-Day
My days just consisted of laying on the beach and walking around the island. My experience included many daily exploration walks around the beaches of Hersonissos and also coming across about tons of stray cats and dogs each day. They are totally harmless, I think I remember being told that cats breed naturally in the wild and pretty much adopt a few households that will take care of them in their passing by. It also has to do with the substandard animal shelters that run merely on charities. Regardless, it made me feel extremely sad for them so much so that I almost ended up bringing one back to Sweden with me.
I digress, the daily walks around the area were the best times. This trip was more exploratory for me so I wasn't as prepared to travel to different destinations. I was just happy to be on the island so taking in all of the history, air and people of Crete. With my camera by my side, daily, people literally came to know me as the girl with the camera. It's funny though because I wasn't focusing on capturing photographically appealing photos, I was just trying to capture memories congruently as I experienced them. So...sorry in advance for the quality.
The Night Life
So, just call summer 2015 the summer of all night parties. First of all, I did not think that traveling to Greece with Tina would give me so much clout on the island. She knew e-v-e-r-y-o-n-e. So since e-v-e-r-y-o-n-e knew Tina, they also welcomed me with open arms, naturally.
I also attempted to make friends!
During my stay in the hotel, I met two college students who were also on an "extended holiday" and working as local bartenders. They knew the island pretty well so I tagged along with them to local bars and clubs on the island. Guys, when I tell you that parties started around 10pm and did not end until 6am!!??!?!? Ok, i don't knwo about you, but I am not used to that and to me, " I've never felt that, never experienced that emotion" ( in Joan the scammer voice)
These Greeks can party!! It was INSANE, but I loved every minute of it.

The Palm Beach Night Club was the spot during my week's stay. The music was lit and the people/ patrons were fun.
Star Beach
I spent most of my time on StarBeach with Tina and the Girls. It was the primary beach that Tina and the girls went to so I decided to go along with them for a couple of days. There ended up being a foam party at one point and because, like I said, Tina knows e-v-e-r-y-o-n-e, I was able to get in without paying.
They were amused at my using of my selfie stick in public
Walking through Starbeach
Walking through Star Beach, I found secluded spots that lead to a very relaxing getaway coves from the touristy feel of themajority. I found many different secluded spots that lead to a very relaxing getaway coves from the touristy feel of the main center of Star Beach. If you walked further into it, you would also run into a ton of different museums. like the Lychnostatis!

Towards the end of the week, we took some strolls, met up with some of Tina's Friends, ate some good traditional Greek food and enjoyed the rest of our trip. Some photos from my trip can be found below. I know it does not do the island justice, but I guess that means that you will just have to visit for yourself!!!
TIP*
If you are ever in Crete, there are multiple vendors that will come up to you advertising a day trip to Santorini. Do yourself a favor and go! We took the trip to Santorini, my dream island. Make sure to read more about that experience!
Safe Travels!
