5 Reasons why 2018's D.C's Broccoli City Fest Was LIT
Broccoli City Festival's mission is a multi day incubator that provides a platform for socio-political consciousness, elevating the voices of those who strive to create a better world. The week ends with a concert and this year's 2018 lineup was impressive.

It's unapologetically black-ety black black
It's low-key an HBCU reunion for everybody, even for me who attended a PWI. There were so many black and brown humans who attended for similar missions: to take in good music, eat tasty food (DESPITE THE AGONIZING LONG LINES) and emit positive artistic vibes. It was beautiful to witness the African-American community, in all the gloriousness and style, just happy to be there. Sigh, I love my people.

The message
Brandon McEachern founded Broccoli City in 2007 after noting the disparity of food access in urban communities. Broccoli City raises awareness about healthy eating, advocates for sustainable living, environmental sustainability, renewable and economic opportunity.

Art and aesthetic of Broccoli City Festival is Dope
Between checking your Instagram to see who’s been lurking, your DMs to see who slid in, and getting your Snaps off, life in 2016 is distracting and oftentimes leaves no room for a nutritious lifestyle. While the musical line up was great, the entire purpose of Broccoli City Festival is to promote and encourage urban millennials on the importance of healthy eating and environmental sustainability.
You literally can’t get any better than that.
4.
Not as crowded as other festivals
Not trying to name any names.. but this festival was definitely the least crowded I have been to! However we all know that there are some things that don't change regardless of the amount of people who attend -- gross porta-potties and super long food lines. No, really, this was the worst part. I ended up waiting an hour for some grilled Cauliflower because all of the other lines were horrendously long.

The Talent: Cardi B, Miguel, Daniel Caesar and HER
For the price fo the ticket, attendees actually got an amazing set list full of award winning and upcoming artists. Although I had seen most of them at Coachella this year, it was nice being able to witness how different each artist's set in comparison.
